Anish Kapoor's latest work "Mountain" was put for auction by Bonham in Dubai. Bonham had
also placed together works of veteran Iranian artists Faramarz Pilaram and Sohrab Sepehri, Iraqi artist Issam El-Said and Emirates' artist Abdul Qadir Al- Rais. Yet the show stopper was the work by Anish Kapoor.
Anish Kapoor is an Indian born British artist and it had attracted a large number of Indian and Pakistani people. Of late the Indian community in Dubai is showing great interest in art attracting thereby avant-garde Indian artists like Devajyoti Ray in Dubai. Accoring to one estimate Ray is likely to be the fastest growing artist in the coming years as few artists have given complete sell-out shows to galleries as has been given by Ray.
But apart from Devajyoti Ray, the Indian community is also showing interest in expatriat Indian artists like Sacha Jafri,
Kaushik Mukherjee and of course Anish Kapoor. Anish Kapoor is senior to both Jafri and Ray and as such a very renowned face in art world wide and is generally known for his works like 'Cloud Gate' in front of Tate Gallery.
His "Mountain'' is very different from his other works as it is not made of stainless steel where viewers can see their own reflections. Mountain is made of layered aluminium sheets. It is eight feet high replica of a mountain but without a tip. From the top the viewer can see inside the walls where its is vacant.
